The contest will ultimately name the ‘best mobile internet startup’ within the UK and the winner will be selected by a professional jury.  Contestants are judged upon their innovativeness, technical ability, financial viability, and overall company quality.

Rummble has successfully made it through the 1st pre-selection jury round and onto the 2nd jury round with 8 other semi-finalist companies.  Our founder, Andrew, will be participating in a presentation to speak about Rummble and its current capabilities in August, where the finalists will be selected.

Mike Butcher honoured at 2009 Europas.

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Here at Rummble we’re very pleased to celebrate and acknowledge Mike Butcher’s achievement at the recent 2009 Europas Awards.  For those who are unaware – the event was put on by TechCrunch and was the first Europe-wide awards ceremony for technology innovation of its kind in London!  Ultimately, the awards aim to recognise Europe’s top-technology startups, web & mobile innovations of this past year.

At the ceremony, Mike Butcher (editor of TechCrunch Europe) was acknowledged for the ‘Biggest contribution to the London & European Tech Scene in Last 3 Years.’  Basti at Zensify and Andrew here at Rummble wanted to honour Mike with the award and nominated him for it some months ago.

As you can see from the snapshot above, plenty were just as proud of Mike as we are! Those pictured (from left to right) include: Basti , Andy from Huddle, Nick Bell from Quick.tv, and Peter Ward from WAYN.com.

Rummble Wins Microsoft Mobile Innovation Week Award

Monday, June 8th, 2009

We’re incredibly happy to announce that on Friday, Rummble won the “Most Improved Application” category during Microsofts Mobile Innovation week. Rummble partnered again with Total Hotspots and joined forces and resources to build a working app in just 4 days.

Microsoft helped all the startups by providing access to 4 days of developer time from Muranosoft – a Microsoft partner. To our delight, Dimiri of Microsoft described Tamer, Bens and Alexs hard work as a near “miracle” pulling together a decent working version of the application within the week through.

You can read more about our win on Microsofts own blog and it was also covered by The Telegraph.

Rummble Wins TeleAtlas Awards Final

Friday, February 27th, 2009

We were incredibly excited at Mobile World Congress to able to announce that Rummble won first place in the Tele Atlas LBS Innovators Series.

It takes time and resources to enter a competition which is run in such a professional way as the Tele Atlas innovators series, so it was even better news that the prize included 28,000 euros PLUS a pod on the Tele Atlas stand at Mobile World Congress this year – we certainly could not have attended with such a prescence otherwise and presenting ourselves under the umbrella of TeleAtlas was a real boon. The Tele Atlas staff were fantastically helpful and we had a great week; despite some less luck outside the conference venue – but more about that in another post!

We were judged based on commercial viability and innovative use of maps in the application in two categories: Market Ready, which includes commercially-ready LBS applications targeted at consumers (which our friends at Nulaz entered an won) and Disruption Innovation, for location-enhanced solutions designed to push the boundaries in the LBS market, which Rummble won.  The judges particularly liked our “Neighborhood View” functionality, which not only gives the distance of relevent content, but also the general direction – and then tracks you to the destination. For us, maps like anything else are important but should be leveraged to make life easier for users – not to just display flat data.

iPhone for Real World Application mockupsSemi-finalists Commandro, MobGeo, Texperts and Webwag were awarded prizes of €8,000 in cash.

Overall, if you have an innovative mapping application or are thinking of building one in 2009, we’d highly recommend you enter the competition this year.

Rummble Wins Place on UK Digital Mission to SXSW 2009

Friday, January 9th, 2009

All of us at Rummble are extremely excited that Rummble has won a place on the Digital Mission to SXSW 2009, run by Chinwag and UKTI and backed by the great guys at Bootlaw and Sun Startup Essentials (if you dont know these guys, worth checking them both out if you’re running a UK startup!)

Rummble kicked off 2008 by attending Web Mission 2008 to San Francisco which was a fantastic trip (incidentally, WebMission 09 submission for Enterprise Web 2.0 and mobile, are now open). Web Mission 08 provided tangible business benefits to Rummble and the other startups who went. Since then there has been a Digital Mission to New York for WebExpo, which our good friends UnLtdWorld and Veedow amongst others, attended.

Andrew went to SXSW in 2008 independently and was impressed with the number of attendees and level of engagement at the event; there are a huge number of panels and presentations at the event covering all manner of internet, mobile and digital.

One of the main benefits of Web Mission was spending so much time with a peer group amd sharing the down and dirty details, challenges and solutions when running an internet startup – we expect the Digital Mission to SXSW to be no different!

Many thanks to the panel for supporting Rummble, congratulations to our peers, and we’ll make sure we make a big splash in Austin, Texas in 2009 not only for Rummble but for the UK Tech Startup scene in general!

MediaTech 100 & Rummble

Friday, November 7th, 2008

MediaTech & Rummble

Despite the current global financial shenanigans Library House has just revealed its 2008 MediaTech Top 100 list, in association with Kemp Little and New Media Age.

Library House data indicates that venture capital investment remains as steady as it has been in previous years. Despite a poor second quarter in 2008, which led to many predicting the start of Mediatech investment slump, investment levels are on a par with 2007 values.

According to Andrea Favale, CEO of Library House;

“The wider picture demonstrates Mediatech’s resilience in the current economic downturn as it continues to attract investment, albeit in smaller deals”.

Rummble is proud to announce that it is in the top 100 listed companies under the Community & Sharing category.

UKTI Momo Competition news: Rummble a Finalist

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Rummble was a finalist at last nights UK Trade and Investment / MOMO London joint event (great to see UKTI working and engaging so closely with our community!)

I thought the pitch was a 6-minute slot,  when it was actually 3 minutes;  serves me right for not reading the small print. I spoke twice as fast and finished with 10 seconds to spare.

My favourite was of my peers was without question Cute Circuit – my Christmas list has just found its first item! Thankfully, they made it thru as one of the two finalists! The second was something which wont be on my Christmas list but is equally worthy – XYZ .

Although Rummble was not chosen in an officially capacity, the UKTI will be supporting our trip to Mobile World Crongress 08 – the reason being that actually, to demo Rummble and promote it, we dont need a formal static “stand” and instead will be engaging people on the move, with our intrepid team signing up delgates and demonstrating Rummble on live handsets.

Thanks to the UKTI team for supporting us and see everyone at Mobile World Congress!
