Here at the Rummble HQ in London, we’re trembling with excitement about the seismic global sporting spectacle that is the FIFA World Cup Finals, now set to kick off in South Africa.
We made it easier than the off-side rule to discover and recommend venues that are showing the World Cup.
He’s how not to score an own-goal when deciding where to watch the match:
- Sign-in to Rummble on the web, mobile web; or on your Android, iPhone, Windows Phone (it’s free!)
- Search for “worldcup“
- Check out the list of nearby football-friendly venues.
- Check-in and tell your friends where you’re watching the match via Facebook or Twitter
To kick off, we already tracked down over 100 venues here in London, loads of venues in Berlin and Paris, and at least one in the capital of every participating European country.
But this is just to get things started, we also invite you become the referee to join us in sharing the best World Cup venues. Simply add “worldcup” as a tag when rummbling a venue.
For hundreds of millions of people, there is no better excuse to meet up (and drink beer) with friends, than to watch 32 countries battle it out on the pitch for ultimate football glory. Rummble helps you discover places nearby that you might enjoy and find yours friends. Seems like a perfect combination? The best bit is that afterwards you can use Rummble to find the next place to go, to comiserate or celebrate!
Enjoy the World Cup and keep rummbling!
Team Rummble
Are you are part of a venue that is screening the World Cup? Please email worldcup@rummble.com – we’d love to hear comments, suggestions and rants from the community too!
Note: We tried our best to make sure that these venues show World Cup games, but please check in with them before you make plans to assure they are actually showing the game you are planning to see.

At South by Southwest Interactive, an improved Rummble friends list went live on new versions of Rummble for iPhone and Android; containing not only your Rummble friends, but also the people you’re following on Twitter.
Now your friends list stays up-to-date when someone publishes their location via Twitter or tweets out their location via another service, such as Brightkite, Gowalla and Foursquare.
Living in a world with many different social location-based services to choose from should make it easier to know where all of your friends are located, but people often miss out on the action because there are a number of places to check out friend’s check-ins and location chatter. Rummble’s answer to this problem is to tell you where your friends are located, regardless of where that information was created.

How? I hear you tweeting…
In June 2009 Rummble launched a labs project called Tremors which recognises recommendations for venues in London, New York, Austin and San Francisco (infact, it’s now possible to check-in directly from Twitter by including the hashtag #Rummble)
Rummble’s mission is to make it easy to find the people and places you love. The location of the people you care about will always play a major role when deciding where you go next.
We’re sure that you will the new friends list useful and eager to hear your feedback.

Hi, I’m Dan. I make websites.
Since graduating from the University of Portsmouth in July, I’ve been looking for a place where I can unleash my creative skills and gain some much needed experience within the working world. I enjoy sitting in Photoshop and designing for all sorts of stuff ranging from websites, to print and t-shirt designs.
I hail from South East London, although claiming that Sidcup counts as London is highly disputed. I love music. My listening tastes span far and wide, but my favourite music comes from bands like Norma Jean, Thrice, The Bled, Converge, Every Time I Die and all that noisy stuff. I play guitar too.
At Rummble, I aim to bring some cool new ideas and graphics that aid it to become a simpler and even more enjoyable platform to use.

..and a present for Rummble users with Android phones!
Just one year ago, the Android operating system was launched by Google with the hopes of expanding the smartphone market. Currently 10% of UK smartphones are now powered by Android (AdMob), with future predictions of an ‘Android explosion’ – where Android will make up 50% of mobile phones & ’overtake’ the iPhone phenomion by 2010.
Today we’re releasing some sneek peeks of Rummble for Android and our beta users will receive an early beta of the app! Our small team has been hard at work building/bug-fixing and we plan to release the final beta of Rummble for Android early next month.

Curently, Android Market, the online store for Android apps has 1000’s of apps available for free download to users and a recent AdMob survey showed that Android users download 9.1 apps/month on average vs. iPhone downloads of 10.2/month… not bad for a one-year anniversary, eh?
If you want to get the next beta release of Rummble for Android before it hits the marketplace and have a say on how it looks, feels and works, then signup to our beta list today: http://bit.ly/rumbeta.
If you’re a London Android developer you should also join the Londroid developer group run by our friends Kevin & Carl at Novoda.
We’re excited about future of Android and hope to celebrate many more years with the Rummble for Android app!

It seems like only yesterday that Rummble moved in with London’s music gurus, Songkick. We had a fantastic few months working just off fashionable Hoxton Square and enjoyed Rummbling the multitude of cafes and bars in the area. Our sausage-scented second office will also be missed, but now we have a new patch of London to explore…
Last Friday Rummble took up a fantastic offer to work in another open office off Clerkenwell Road, thanks to serial entrepreneur and current executive chairman at Mendeley, Stefan Glänzer. A big thank you to Stefan and Eileen for making us feel so welcome.
There is so much happening right now, both at Rummble and in the wider social location-based mobile sector. We’re close to launching fresh new apps for iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile; and also going through the process of simplifying our website to ensure that the Rummble community is better equipped to find the people and places we love.
It’s going to be an exciting last few months of 2009 and we want you on board for the ride. As a friend of Rummble, please register for shiny new app betas and send us your feedback.

Thanks to Rummble’s current involvement as alumni at Microsoft Mobile Incubation Week in Washington DC, Alex Housley got the opportunity to join Brian Hoskins, Director of Microsoft’s Emerging Business Team, on ABC News. The interview featured on ‘Ahead of the Curve’, a program that features the latest technology innovations in the American marketplace.
David and Alex spoke about the upcoming launch of (recently rebranded) Windows Phone and how Mobile Incubation Week helped speed up the development of Rummble for Windows Phone. Windows Marketplace for Mobile is set to debut tomorrow and will soon feature Rummble among the launch apps for over 30 shiny new Windows Mobile 6.5 devices to be released before the end of the year; plus the millions of existing Windows Mobile 6.1 devices.
It’s our mission for Rummble to become the #1 social local discovery service in the US (and the rest of the World), so this was the perfect opportunity for Americans to get to know what Rummble is all about! Rummble is hugely appreciative for the support of Microsoft through initiatives such as Microsoft BizSpark and Mobile Incubation Week, and cannot wait to launch.
You can watch the video here.
